The atmosphere is the thin envelope of gases surrounding the Earth and helping us to breath, shielding the earth from the sun’s harmful rays, and keeping it a warm place.
With the rising pollution and global climate changes, it is important to continuously conduct research on the atmosphere, measuring the levels of different gases and investigating ways that will help us keep our atmosphere intact.
In an attempt to help scientists conduct studies on the Maltese atmosphere, Malta had its first space adventure by launching a space balloon that rose 37 kilometers above the island into space!
STRATOS-1 is a space weather balloon that had measuring devices attached to it to collect never-seen-before space photos of the Maltese islands, as well as gathering data about the islands’ atmosphere.
