Malta Café Scientifique | Emerging Technologies in COVID Disinfection

The COVID-19 pandemic has shown how vulnerable society to biological hazards is. Dr. Sholeem Griffin will present her work on a novel method of disinfectant synthesis, that can help tackle pandemics, at the Malta Café Scientifique on December 7th at 7pm in Spazju Kreattiv.

COVID-19 has shown that the world was not prepared for a pandemic. Moreover, we don’t know what the next pandemic will look like, but it could be deadlier. Luckily, some research on COVID-19 also applies to other pathogens. In her work, Dr. Griffin investigates how to produce broad-spectrum disinfectants. These special kinds of disinfectants can be used against several bacteria and fungal strains as well as viruses. The SANITAS team researches how effective different sorts of disinfectants are, and how the human body reacts to them.
