Malta Physiological Society

In January 2013 Prof. Giuseppe Di Giovanni founded the Malta Physiological Society (MPS) within the Malta Chamber of Scientists. The aim of the society is to promote physiology in Malta and support those working in the field by organising world-class scientific meetings, offering support for grant applications, facilitating collaboration and international travel, and by publishing the latest developments in the official journal of the Chamber; Xjenza Online.

The Society also will run events within the Chamber’s activities for the general public on how physiology relates to everyday life, and for students who may be considering physiology as a career.

Membership is available via Malta Chamber of Scientists for all career stages, from undergraduate level to senior level scientists.

MPS has joined the European Federation of Physiological Societies (FEPS) and the International Union of Physiological Sciences (IUPS). On the 22nd of May 2013, the official presentation of MPS to the Maltese public will take place, this event is organised by the Chamber of Scientists and will see the participation of the President of FEPS Prof. Eric Eisner (UK) and Prof. Serio, Deputy of the Italian Physiological Society.

The Society’s purpose is to advance the science of physiology through the organization of scientific meetings and conferences, the publication of scientific and educational journals, the support of science education at all levels, and the promotion diversity of individuals within the scientific workforce.

MPS is governed by a Council elected by the Chamber of Scientists consisting of a President, Vice President-Elect, Past President, and Secretary General. The National headquarters of the Society is based in Msida at the University of Malta, in the Department of Physiology and Biochemistry.

“No one, unless he is grossly ignorant of what science has done for mankind, can entertain any doubt of the incalculable benefits which will hereafter be derived from physiology.” — Charles Darwin
