May 2016 - Users, Games and Politicks

Everyone likes playing games, but what can a game on politics teach us?

This talk will explore the similarities between designing board/card games and designing the user experience in a software application. They are alike in many ways – valuing accessibility, for instance, but diverge in others, such as the element of surprise which is sought in games but is rarely ever considered a positive feature in software applications.

Prof. Gordon Pace will talk about some game design lessons in how to create an enjoyable user experience through explaining a game, called Politicks that was launched in April 2016. After the talk, the members in the audience will be able to experience and play the game. The person behind the game design, Prof. Gordon Pace, will be talking about how the game was made in a Malta cafe Scientifique talk on the 11th of May.
