About Us

Founded on the 2nd December 1992, the Malta Chamber of Scientists (MCS) is a learned society and organisation of professionals, academics, teachers and students involved in the field of science. We endeavour to act as a centre point for making new contacts, as well as a hub for the discussion and exchange of innovative ideas. Our ultimate goals are to improve science awareness and develop informed opinions, increase student uptake of STEM careers for high-level jobs, stimulate the socio-economic wellbeing of partner countries, and enhance the transferable skills of current researchers.

MCS is involved in an active outreach programme aimed a spreading developments in local ongoing scientific research. Through Malta Café Scientifique and Scientific & Business Meetings the Chamber is able to reach several individuals both professionals and otherwise.

The Chamber works hard to increase the number of students opting for STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics) subjects in schools. It strives to engage with citizens on how science and research are creative and lead to highly interesting careers. Two prime initiatives are the Science in the City, Malta's Science and Arts Festival as well as the Kids Dig Science activity, fusing theatre and interactive science.

The Chamber also offers a platform for local researchers to share and get recognition for their own unique research. The journal Xjenza is an online publication which features a selection of innovative research from the Maltese scientific scene and elsewhere. The editorial board intends to provide Xjenza with tools for training young researchers in writing science manuscripts.
